I’ve been playing in the Altis server for a few days and have been really enjoying the NAK community. I’d really like to branch out in the server and start taking on some more roles and I think that working as a transport pilot could be a lot of fun, but I wanted to touch base here on the forums to see if I could gleam some knowledge from those more experienced on the best way to help out.
I’ve been practicing my helo skills in a useful scenario that just generates endless random LZ’s for me. With the Hummingbird I’m at a point where I feel confident making real transport runs and not wasting server assets. I guess I’m just checking to see if there is anything I should keep in mind (besides teamspeak) for my first time occupying a pilot slot.
Thanks in advance, I look forward to flying with you all!
Quite a few transport pilots complain about not having any transports to run. I would recommend being active over side channel, offering transports and letting players know that you are running transport rides. It should help alot.
Generally speaking, most of the transports will be successful as long as you pick an adequate LZ, a lot of information provided earlier is quite good, but one thing that I will have to remark is the fact that you should not deliver any assets to the AO’s if they’re not requested as that’s also considered as wasting assets, so before heavy lifting anything just either use the side channel, or even the TeamSpeak to get someone from the infantry to know that you are available for the heavy lift, in case if they need anything.
While the hummingbird is a good helicopter you have to keep in mind a few things that might vary from those scenarios, first, our Main AO now always spawns x1 Rhea, x1 Chronos, and from x3 to x5 Tigris, without counting the occasional Nyx AA or two, that makes early infills quite a challenge to even the most experienced pilots, and I’ve made a topic about this in the past that might be able to give you quite a few tips and tricks. I’ll quote the important in this same post so you don’t have to look for it.
You are more than welcome to join TeamSpeak at any given time, you don’t even have to fly to be in TS3, it’s a rule for the pilots, but it’s optional for the rest of the roles (Excluding Pilots, ATC, and UAV.) You can ask most of your questions and I’m sure that there will be a lot of good players who will be able to help you out with most of your doubts and questions, and if you ever see me around feel free to poke me as well.
Can’t wait to see you around! Really excited to see someone who enjoys transport as much as I do. And hopefully, this is enough to get you started.
One thing that I’ve noticed that should be stated, on our Altis server we use a custom script which allows you to heavy-lift any vehicle with most helicopters, that includes the Mohawk, as well as a few others to the list that’s above, it is however accurate for our Tanoa Server.
On Altis the only helicopters that are not able to heavy-lift are the Hummingbird, the Pawnee, and the Kajman. (Might’ve missed something, but can’t really recall any right now.)
In order to use the custom script just hover above whatever you want to pick up, and use your scroll wheel, you will get an option for the heavy-lift in the scroll wheel menu, to drop it off, reduce your airspeed and altitude and that same option should appear once again.
