Stuck on Initializing...

Hello

I logged in today at Tanoa, and for some reason i was stuck at the Initializing… message,
I am able to hear my character moving or walking if I press forward or go prone, I waited for over 5 minutes to no avail

I read this post:

https://www.naksquad.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1844&p=7824&hilit=tanoa#p7824

I was able to get past the “Receiving Data” message and also followed Vile’s instructions and no luck.

As a side note, I logged in on January 2nd for about an hour and had no problems

Any help would be appreciated

Best regards,

For me Tanoa takes a ridiculous time to load in. I’m talking about 10-15 minutes. I simply sit there for a while and eventually it loads without any issues.

Hello WilliamTesla

Thanks for the reply

Ok, will give it a try and report back

Today the longest I waited was around 5 minutes

Best regards,

This is the correct answer to your question:

If any of the steps below concern you or you’re are unsure how to proceed, join TeamSpeak and an admin will be happy to walk you through the steps.

Players that have issues connecting to Tanoa QuickSilver with the message “Initializing…” or long load times should follow the instructions below.

First, be aware it can take as much as 5 min on a slow internet connection to complete the Tanoa connection and if Arma loses focus (you ALT-Tab to another application) the transfer will stop and may cause an issue, keep Arma in focus as you load into Tanoa.

If after waiting up to 5 min you still have not connected to Tanoa,

Stop Arma 3 and the Arma 3 Launcher
Delete all files in the …\AppData\Local\Arma 3\MPMissionsCache. To located that directory:

  • Press - Windows + R
  • In the field on the open window type explorer.exe then press enter
  • In the address bar where it says This PC> type %localappdata%/Arma 3/MPMissionsCache
  • Left click any file in the …\AppData\Local\Arma 3\MPMissionsCache director then press CTRL + A to select all files
  • Press the Del key to delete all files

Next, we are going to rename your existing Profile Mission Variables making a backup, when Arma is started the file will be recreated. To rename the file:

  • Press - Windows + R
  • In the field on the open window type explorer.exe then press enter
  • In the address bar where it says This PC> type %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Arma 3 - Other Profiles- if that folder does not exist go to ALTERNATIVE FOLDER
  • In the …\Arma 3 - Other Profiles folder, locate the folder with the name of your current Arma 3 Profile
  • Double-click the profile folder to open it.
  • Right-click the file *.vars.Arma3Profile where * is equal to your profile name (i.e. VileAce.vars.Arma3Profile)
  • Select Rename
  • Rename the file to *.vars.Arma3Profile.bak (i.e. VileAce.vars.Arma3Profile.bak)

ALTERNATIVE FOLDER
Skip this section if you were able to find your profile in the \Documents\Arma 3 - Other Profiles folder

  • Press - Windows + R
  • In the field on the open window type explorer.exe then press enter
  • In the address bar where it says This PC> type %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Arma 3
  • Right-click the file *.vars.Arma3Profile where * is equal to your profile name (i.e. VileAce.vars.Arma3Profile)
  • Select Rename
  • Rename the file to *.vars.Arma3Profile.bak (i.e. VileAce.vars.Arma3Profile.bak)

Restart Arma
EDIT:
It may also be a good idea to disable any realtime virus protection while at least downloading the mission and connecting to the server, if not the whole time playing Arma.

You should now be able to connect to the Tanoa server. The first connection will take a little longer as the 48 MB mission file will need to be downloaded, but once the mission file is downloaded, the “Initializing…” phase should not take more than 5 min. It is very important not to Alt-Tab away from the game until after you have control of your character.

So you may be asking yourself, why does it take up to 5 minutes to connect to Tanoa.
There is a lot of information that is sent from the server to the client and from the client to the server upon connection. Unlike Altis, Tanoa is not database driven so information is kept in the server mission variables and client-side variables. This information needs to be sent back and forth on the initial connection. Some of the information stored includes the leader boards, arsenal restrictions, roles, default loadouts, users’ last loadout, general permissions, current and recent mission states, FOB states and much more.

I have found that just backing out and shutting down Arma (and also closing Steam), then restarting and selecting a different log-in spot from where your player name is placed by default usually works. In fact, I now habitually choose a different log-in position manually every time I log on and seem to have fewer issues.
